YOUR DATA, EXPLAINED
RunRo Privacy Policy
What stays on your phone, what a route request sends, and how RunRo handles diagnostics.
1. Overview
RunRo Free v1 for iOS records walks using your phone’s GPS, shows a recorded route, and offers loop route planning in Türkiye. You do not need an account. This policy covers that release and the public RunRo website.
2. Walk data on your device
Recorded walks may include GPS samples, timestamps, duration, estimated walked distance and estimated pace. Walk history is stored in the app’s local SQLite database. Walking preferences and language settings are also stored locally.
The current release does not upload your recorded walk history to a RunRo account or provide cloud sync. This is not a statement about the behaviour of operating-system backups.
3. Location permission
Walk recording uses location updates to record where you walk and estimate distance and pace. Recording data is saved locally. The app requests the iOS location permissions needed for recording, including background location permission.
Planning is separate: the app obtains a foreground location fix for a starting point. That fix is not itself a recorded walk. The planner requires the iOS Precise Location permission; if it is off, the app asks you to enable it before planning.
4. Route planning
Planning a route sends the starting location and selected route parameters to api.runro.app over HTTPS. The backend processes that location temporarily in memory through a private Valhalla service with OpenStreetMap-derived routing data. Route planning currently covers Türkiye only and requires an internet connection.
RunRo does not persist route-planning coordinates in a database or write raw coordinates to its API, Caddy or Valhalla production logs. Planned route geometry and route length are separate from your GPS estimate of the distance you actually walk. Network services receive the connection information necessary to deliver a response.
5. Crash diagnostics
Mobile Sentry is used only for crash reporting. Reports can contain error details, stack traces, app version and device or runtime context needed to investigate a crash. RunRo does not use Sentry on the backend.
GPS coordinates, location values and walk traces must not be sent to Sentry. The mobile configuration filters location fields and disables default personal-information submission (sendDefaultPii), tracing, profiling, session replay, screenshots, view-hierarchy capture and failed-request body capture. Automatic native and network breadcrumbs are configured off. Sentry is not used for product analytics.
6. Accounts
iOS Free v1 has no production account or sign-in system. You can record walks and view local history without signing in. There is no production user database or production Supabase service.
Free v1 has no subscription, paywall or RevenueCat client or purchase flow.
7. Health information
iOS Free v1 does not integrate with Apple Health and does not collect HealthKit health data. Walked distance and pace are estimates from GPS.
8. Advertising and tracking
Free v1 has no PostHog or product analytics. The current app has no advertising SDK and does not use cross-app advertising tracking. GPS location used to record or plan a walk serves the walking feature; it is different from advertising tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
9. Maps and other services
MapLibre displays map tiles from OpenFreeMap at tiles.openfreemap.org. Tile requests describe the map area being viewed and expose normal network connection information to the tile service. Map data includes © OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenMapTiles attribution.
The RunRo API, private Valhalla routing service and Caddy run on an OVHcloud VPS in Frankfurt, Germany, using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. This backend has no production database or persistent user data.
Sentry handles only the mobile crash reporting described above. The website itself loads no third-party maps, analytics or embeds. These services have their own privacy information; links are provided below.
10. Data retention
Local walk history remains in the app’s storage on your device until that app data is removed. An interrupted walk can be saved or discarded through the recovery screen.
Route-planning coordinates are processed temporarily in memory and are not persisted by the backend. Client IP addresses are used only for in-memory rate limiting for about one minute and are not persisted.
Production container logs are local and privacy-redacted; API, Caddy and Valhalla logs do not contain raw coordinates. Mobile crash reports are a separate data stream. Contact privacy@runro.app for questions about diagnostic retention or deletion.
11. Your choices
Manage location permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → RunRo. You can revoke access or turn off Precise Location. Turning it off prevents route planning until you enable it again; recording also depends on location permissions and available GPS updates.
To remove local app data from your iPhone, use Delete App in iOS. Removing only the Home Screen icon or offloading the app is different from deleting it. The current release does not offer an in-app “delete all data” control. Contact privacy@runro.app for privacy requests.
12. Website and email contact
This website uses no analytics, advertising, session replay, support forms or application cookies. If you choose a language, it stores that preference in your browser’s local storage. Clearing site storage removes it. The host receives the connection information needed to serve the website.
If you email support@runro.app or privacy@runro.app, you choose what information to send. Your email address and message are used to handle your request. Avoid including a GPS trace or other sensitive information unless it is needed and you choose to share it.
13. Children’s privacy
RunRo is a general walking app. If you are concerned that a child has provided personal information through a support request, contact privacy@runro.app so the request can be reviewed.
14. Changes to this policy
When data handling changes, this page will be updated and the last updated date revised. Review this policy for the version of RunRo you use.
15. Contact
